Jesus said, "Let the little children come to me..."
Matthew 19:14
At St. John's we value children as part of God's kingdom of believers. They aren't just the "future" of the church, they are the church RIGHT NOW!
Besides our wonderful preschool, Little Lambs, we also have a children's ministry called Joy Wednesday which meets from 5:30-7 on Wednesday nights. Supper and play time is 5:30-6 and lesson, craft, music and games are 6-7
On Sundays kids 3-10 begin the morning with their parents in worship in the sanctuary. Then, about halfway through the worship service, pastor has a children's message at which he invites all the children to come up front. After the children's message the kids go downstairs for a lesson, craft, and play time. After worship is done parents go downstairs to pick up their kids.
When kids reach 6th grade, 11-12 years of age, they begin confirmation class with pastor after worship on Sunday mornings from the Sunday after Labor Day to the last Sunday in April. This goes three years through 8th grade. We go through Luther's Small Catechism, we have a year of topical lessons mostly in apologetics, and we spend a year going through the Bible with a special Bible book called The Story. At the end of the 8th grade year the kids confirm their faith by having a public interview/questioning time and then going through the rite of confirmation on the fourth Sunday in April.
